I joined the law firm of Franke Beckett LLC in March 2021. The focus of the law firm is the law of fiduciaries and the law of estates and trusts. Somewhat unique for firms of this size, the firm has a broad range within this practice niche: spanning estate/trust/closely held business planning, will and trust litigation, and estate and trust administration. My role is as a paralegal primarily focused on the administration practice.
In one sense, the estate and trust administration practice is a stand-alone subset of the larger practice. At our firm, however, it is interconnected purposely with all of practice areas of the firm. Understanding the planning documents, and the planning process itself, directly connects to the eventual administration. Familiarity with the fiduciary litigation of the firm advances one’s knowledge of the complexity of administering an estate or trust.
The firm is designed to promote collaboration on specific client matters and we operate as a team. Even during COVID, we operated as a team – beginning each day with a firm-wide conference call to share details of our work. Weekly, we have a staff meeting to discuss best practices and possible improvements to the practice. The various practice groups meet regularly to review all pending matters. Because of these routines, I was comfortable onboarding from a technical standpoint and as a way to absorb the firm culture.
Prior to joining the team, I worked for a public accounting and tax practice in Baltimore, Maryland and for a boutique employment and labor law firm in Annapolis, Maryland. This mix of accounting and law serves me well at Franke Beckett LLC. Estate and trust administration is a combination of legal and court filings, financial accountings, and tax return preparation. Unlike some estate and trust law firms, we prepare all fiduciary tax returns in-house.
One critical part of our role is helping our clients navigate through processes that may seem daunting or confusing to them. Often this is a chore thrust upon them at one of the most difficult times of their lives. I am devoted to understanding our clients’ needs, offering them peace of mind, and ensuring that our firm efficiently serves them. Throughout my career, I have come to recognize the importance of understanding a client’s unique circumstances and goals. My interests in studying the tax system and law, along with my desire to assist others, made working at Franke Beckett LLC a perfect fit. Here, we hope you will feel you are in safe hands.
I was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland. In 2018, I received a Bachelor of Science in Financial Economics with a concentration in Accounting, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). There, I participated in Mock Trial, Accounting Club, and Community Council. I am currently a Master of Science in Taxation candidate at the University of Baltimore which will further strengthen my ability to guide and inform our clients.
